The history of the Society dates back from 1945 when Travancore was a Princely State. It was on the basis of a Government Order dated 5th November 1945 issued from the Secretariat, then known as “Huzur Catcherry”, that the Society was constituted. When the State of Kerala was formed in 1956, the Society was renamed as the “Kerala Agri-horticultural Society”, the office and nursery were shifted to the Kanakakunnu Palace from the public garden.
The objective of the Society covers a wide spectrum relating to promotion of Agri-Horticultural activities including production and supply of plants, seeds, manure, fertilizers, tools and implements, pots and grow bags, planting medium, plant protection items etc.
Records go to show that the first Flower, Fruit & Vegetable Show was organised by the Society in the year 1948.The show continued to be held on a limited scale at different points of time for many more years.
